National T20 Tournament Comes To An End

National T20 Tournament Comes To An End, There are places and events where one feels unwanted. You question your decisions. What am I doing here? Why did they invite me? Is it because their parents forced it? Is it because I have money or a car? Whatever it is, I am here sitting in a corner, sulking, while everyone else is having the time of their lives. If that place is your home, you began to question your own existence. In typical Bollywood style, one wonders, am I the unwanted child? The Sontaile oald?

If National T20 Tournament had feelings, it would be on these lines. From August to November, there have been delays. For one reason to another. Some valid, some not so much. Started with the Caribbean Premier league. Players were asked to comeback to Pakistan to conduct a fitness test and sent back. Then World 11 tour happened. Sri Lanka tour which was lined up for a while became an obstacle. West Indies, will they, wont they, meant another delay.

National T20 Tournament Comes To An End, Simultaneously, the small matter of Quaid e Azam trophy, country’s premier 1st class tournament was also being played. Man-made climate change or god’s will (choice depends if you are a Trump supporter or not), caused Smog. So, the venue was changed from Faisalabad and Multan to Rawalpindi. Double headers starting 12 noon, and finishing 7pm, meant no prime-time television coverage. I presume, it was due to weather. Such are the biases in our system that, we can’t even organise a domestic tournament outside of Punjab even in such dire situation. BPL had more appropriate viewing time. And our players were given NOCs to play BPL as this tournament was being played. Also, and obviously, PCB thought there is no need of marketing. PTV’s cricket production, commentary team and marketing as usual left a hell lot to be desired. The last nail in the coffin was Faizabad Dharna/Protest. The semi-finals and final on a weekend could have attracted a larger crowd with more eye balls via tv. We all know what happened.

National T20 Tournament Comes To An End

National T20 Tournament Comes To An End, This was an unusual tournament by Pakistani standards. There were lots of runs being scored, on flat batting wickets. 5 hundred were scored by top order batsmen. Top 3 wicket takers, 4 out of top 5 were pacers. Usually T20 cricket is played on dustbowls, where spinners reigned supreme. This was different in cricketing terms. It was different because all these players knew, that a good tournament could mean a PSL journey. Saeed Ajmal was bowing out of the game. It had meaning and competitiveness on the field. Unfortunately, off the field, it was treated by PCB as it always has been. Like Catelyn Stark treated Jon Snow.
